Safety and Crossing Points:

This 5.4 km winter evening route begins and ends at Town Mills car park and follows a mix of quiet residential roads and well lit paths making it suitable for winter running in reduced daylight. While much of the route stays along calmer streets there are several points where runners need to cross busier roads or navigate junctions with heavier traffic. In the shorter days and low light conditions typical of winter extra awareness is essential at these locations.

Each runner is responsible for ensuring they cross safely at all times by slowing down as they approach road crossings, checking carefully in both directions before stepping onto the road, making eye contact with drivers where possible and only crossing when it is clearly safe to do so. Safety should always take priority over pace, group positioning or staying with others.

Runner Considerations:

Some sections of this loop involve running on the road so runners should remain in single file and wear reflective or brightly colored clothing to maximise visibility in the darker conditions. Take extra care around corners and bends particularly where street lighting may be less consistent and remain alert for potentially slippery surfaces caused by wet leaves, frost or early ice on trail or unpaved sections. The route may also be shared with walkers and dog walkers so be courteous and aware of others on the paths and always obey road safety rules giving way where required.

For runners who prefer a slightly shorter option there is a 4.3 km variation on the same course that still includes many of the same paths and sights, giving flexibility for different paces and time constraints.

Route Completion:

This winter adapted loop brings runners back to Town Mills car park after a scenic mix of lit town paths and quieter road sections. It is a great way to maintain training consistency during the darker winter months while enjoying a safe and enjoyable winter run.
